New to the Forum. I have a 2001 Wrangler 4.0L 5 speed that I bought new in
September of 2000. After running well over 12,000 gallons (about $30,000) of gasoline through it, enough is enough. I have my eye on a 2006 Jetta TDI automatic with less than150k miles. I am primarily after mileage. I want to use the 5 speed transmission, Jeep clutch and flywheel. I want to maintain the stock Jeep transmission location if possible. I hope to convert the TDI to a mechanical injection pump. The Jetta is mechanically complete. I will convert & drive it to fine tune it before the engine swap. I can make adapters and mounts. I would prefer to buy them if possible. Will this automatic TDI be a good donner? Will my gear ratio be ok? 64mph @ 2000rpm (33" tires). I am hoping for 38/40 mpg at 55/60 mph. Any advise??

Check out td conversions for the mounts and adaptor plates. Being a 2006... You are not able to convert it to mechanical. That said.. Electronic injection is the best way to go. Once you get the ecu tuned and deleted. I'm swapping an alh into my 99 xj :)
