Tom, my condolences. It is hard when a pet dies. If I ever get to heaven & am able to ask a question or 2, the first one will probably be: How come dogs livers short lives and parrots so long?
Grieving for the loss of our pets is an important step in the process of understanding and accepting our own mortality.
There is a great sense of loss losing a pet, but we discover, with time, that we can get through. Those experiences will serve us well later- IMO.
