Anyone have a TB artist that they would like to share? :D I'll be due in the spring and want to get everthing in order so I don't have to rush at the last minute. I'm looking for a trusted mechanic to change the TB on my 02 TDI. I'm looking for someone who can be trusted to replace all right parts. Should I just take it to St James VW? The did a great job the last time it was in (the only time it has ever been back to SJVW since I bought it). I'm ok with the so-called backyard mechanics, independent garages, or even the dealership. I just want the job done right.

Thanks in advance for any info.....

TB change in...Graysville

Hello Mad_TDI:
I go to Peters' Service for most things, but for my timing belt change which just got done this week, I discovered these guys: "Steel Brothers". They're located about 8 miles west of Carman, and they specialize in VW. They did the TB in less than a day, whereas Peters schedules two full days for it. Also a couple hundred dollars less, but they seem to really know what they're doing. Had a courtesy car for me, too.

Hi I'm new to the province and I'd like to find a neighborhood shop to call my own. Old school with extra parts out back type of place. They need to be VW specialists and at least a little familiar with TDIs. Does anyone know of such a shop? I'm working at the airport and presently (and probably thru the winter) living in St. Andrews but Winnipeg aint too big so just about anywhere is fine.
Also are there any recomende parts/fluids type vendors around. I'm looking for Euro manufactured, not just speced synthetic oils and filters and aftermarket goodies and the like?

European Auto in Brandon does good work and they have good prices too. They work on a lot of TDI's so they know the timing belt process pretty well.

Steel Brothers quote 475.00; I think tax was included. I don't know about DSG fluid change, but I'd guess they do that too. I don't have their phone number handy, but I'll try to get it to you, if you want.

I'll have to see whether I can get the VAT back. But even without it sounds like a reasonable price. I rather make the 3 hr trip north if I can trust that the tech has done this before. The local dealership can't put oil in the engine without it spilling out of the dipstick tube.
