I inherited a 2002 TDI Beetle with the "dreaded" OM1 tranny. I previously owned a 2002 TDI Beetle with a manual so I am somewhat familiar with the TDI technology, etc. The vehicle only has 55K and I want to keep it for as long as it lasts. While i am not a gear head and do not want to completely trick the Beetle out...I would like to maximize performance, within reason, but cannot find any info on what HP the OM1 can handle without destroying itself. I did all the required maintenance, replaced the timing belt, chipped it (maybe not required :), etc. The emission shop said it hit 105 HP.

So...I would love some thoughts/input on options, if any.

01m's implode with no additional power. If I owned one, I would either baby it and leave it at stock power, as well as change the fluid religiously,

Or,

Convert it to a 5 speed, and sell the 55k 01M to pay for all of the parts.

I had a 2001 Jetta tdi with the slushbox 01M, had it tuned and dynoed at 114 hp, 80,000 k later it started to act up not shifting and over revving
I personally wouldn't recommend it

01M=Autotragic.
Most I've seen out of one is PP357s, 17/22 turbo and stage 4 tune. It lasted about 30k or so before it exploded.
