Default Coolant Flush

I have just replaced a leaky radiator, and need to flush out the old coolant from the system. The previous owner had used the wrong type of coolant and I want to do a very thorough flush. I have no repair manual, and advice on the best way to get the thermostat out, or should I just run it with water a few times to clean it?

This is a good how to article...also look at the FAQ's on this site for more excellent information.
