Has anyone installed a TDI heater on a 09 or 10 Common Rail Engine. I am Looking to install one on my 2010 jetta and the website says they make one for 09 and 10 models. Even though these cars will start even at below zero temps they still take forever to heat up so im hoping this will help. I work 3rd shift so the car sits outside all night and in the garage all day. I have a place to plug it in at both locations.

At what point would I need a heater?

The climate I am in is not that bad, maybe a few 30 - 0 nights during winter.
I am new here and have already read quite a bit, the wealth of information on
this site is staggering...along with the many knowledgeable folks.

Even at 30 degrees nice to have instant heat when turning on the TDI.

I have a friend who has a CR 2009 and he reports it is a beautiful thing. He loves it. The dealer ordered for him and installed it. Reports it is working spot on.

Yes i was referring to the frostheater. I know the car doesnt need it but it would be nice to have instant heat.

It is sweet to have. Yes my car will start at -22 degrees F, but plugged in at the same temperature for 3 hours, the snow on the hood is melting off where the engine sits and the car starts right up and I have instant heat.

Of course now that I have added heated/cooled leather to my car it is not as important to me.

The main reason is for the instant heat. Even the new tdi's take forever to heat up but i dont want to block the grille in case it goes into regen.

A heater will also reduce engine wear slighty because as a side benefit of warming the block you are warming the oil.

Im going to order one next week. I want to drive the car in the winter but it takes so long to warm up that i find myself driving my 97 wrangler more often, only because it heats up quick lol.
