My key fob stopped working, it still can start the car but the lock, unlock, trunk, and panic buttons don't work. I changed the battery and the small LED light blinks so I think it just needs to be reprogramed but I'm having no luck and see slightly different instructions online. Can someone help me with this?

I have a 2010 TDI sportwagen, I lost one of the key fobs a few years ago so I only have the valet key and one switchblade key fob. Both keys can start the car fine.

I just want to make sure I try the correct operations to reprogram the key before I take it into the dealer and get my wallet abused.

Remote never loose programing , so programing will not help you.It is 99% bad remote.
On your car remote is still separate , if you have 2011 it will be part of the whole key :D .
Just get other remote and use VCDS to program it.

BTW , update your signature "TDI(s)"

if it is like the new Jetta's (IMMO4) you will need the IMMO code to program the remote.
Learned that one the hard way.
