If I remember correctly my 1986 Golf was made in Pennsylvania , does VW still operate this facility

No; they abandoned US manufacturing in the late eighties (if I remember right) and sold the plant.

Yours, mine and almost everyone elses were built in the city of Puebla, in the state of Puebla which is near Mexico City.

Puebla produces around 430,000 cars every year with 14,500 employees for the models Jetta, Bora, New Beetle, New Beetle Cabrio and Golf Variant.

2/3 of all VW's sold in the US are manufactured in Mexico.

They sold the Westmoreland plant. For years, it has been used to manufacture Sony televisions. Sony has been in talks to sell the facility, but that hasn't happened yet and they're still making product there.
