You can send the ecu off to Malone, or others, or have it done in the car.
Malone rents or you can buy a "Q-loader" that'll hook up to the car and
flash the ecu. Malone also has a list of tuners where you can visit and they
can do the loading.

My brother, with his recent acquisition of a Volvo C30, went this route,
bought the loader and a tune. Now, for CA emissions testing he can reinstall
the factory emission compliant tune. Drive away and reload his performance
upgraded tune.

that one is not flashable over OBD
typically sockets are soldered in for the 2 chips

I had the socket installed and now the tuned chips can be inserted if I want to change my tune in the future. I went with Malone but I am sure someone closer to you can do this too.

Plan to be without your car for a while, or maybe a hot swappable program is available so you can just trade your ECU with a modified one.
