Rear Hatch on 03 jetta tdi wagon always locked !!!

Anyone know if you can unlock or disengage the lock on the hatch on the 03 jetta wagon. I would have expected it to behave like the doors locked or unlocked but it is always locked and can only be opened from the interior release or the key remote, is there any way around this?

A lot of people tried to solve this on the Golf hatch. AFAIK no one succeeded. Not sure if the wiring/module is the same for the Jetta wagon, if it is I'd say the answer to your Q is unfortunately no. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

You have to double click the key fob or use the interior release. Thats it.
