To buy or not buy used 2015 TDI

My '09 Jetta went through 3 MUs before I finally got rid of it.

The issue with mine is the gear lights on the dash are blinking when I try to drive it and its not engaging in any gears. From what I have seen so far, that is the mechatronics unit. Is there possibly something cheaper it could be? I don't want to have to buy a new car if I don't have to, but I would rather do that than drop 2k on a 14yr old car with 250k miles on it
