I lost my 5th gear about a month ago, I had 698,000 miles on it. I was lucky, I found a used transmission with only 103K miles on it and the 5th gear on it had been replaced with with a .622 gear

Don't think those are good gear ratio's for an TDI.

Oh crap - given that I only buy TDI stuff from Aaron, I assumed that was a TDI ratio 02J; my bad.

Now I get to revive an 11 year old thread, since @BleachedBora said he might have these again in the future.

I lost track of this thread, but thought Aaron never ended up making these?

Aaron might be thinking about tooling these for manufacture again last he and I chatted.
Likely depends on demand.

Given this a thread from 2011, starting off with "this has been in the works since 2005"...

A costly retrofit for cars (transmissions) that haven't been in production for....15-20 years (?).
Unless it was somehow able to get done for a couple hundred of dollars, I gotta think the market for this is rather small....like, tiny. Single-digits? Maybe low double-digits?

How many TDI owners ever bothered to put a taller 5th gear in their car...and that's in that "low hundreds $" price-range?

How much is one of these kits? My fifth just went out on my 02J so may just replace fifth with a new taller fifth and change fluid a couple times?

This kit from boraparts is essentially vaporware. They made one or two prototypes, and never really brought this to market.

There is a company in the Czech republic called Eurotuning that actually makes and ships such a kit. Their kit exists, works, can be installed, and shifts well - I know because I bought, installed and drove one for over 100,000km. car has since been sold and is still driven by another TDIclub member with no issues. I think it's up to 200,000km since install now.

Many threads on it. Search for "Eurotuning" I think there's even a group buy in the works right now.

Thanks for the fast reply, I might just get a used 02J from Dutch Auto more economically feasible. My fifth gear went out on my 02J this am or may just try swapping in a new taller fifth gear from Cascade German? I need to make some choices. Do you know the code of my 02J its a 2001 golf? I guess theres two generation shift linkages? Thanks again
