My car is in the shop getting the new cam/lifters installed and, since I have 75K miles and the timing belt has to come off anyway to do the cam, I am having them do the timing belt at the same time.

I just got a call from the shop telling me they had ordered the same water pump for an 05 BRM and once they got mine out, discovered that the 06 water pump is different.

Is this correct? Did VW change the the BRM water pump from 05 to 06?

They are supposed to have the correct water pump first thing in the morning and should have the job done by mid day tomorrow.

BTW: They said a few of my lifters were worn completely through!

They are saving the parts for me. I will post pic's of them when I get a chance.

Interesting.

The 05 BRM list the part # 045 121 011 HX for water pump.

The 06 BRM list 3 possible part #'s
045 121 011 H, 045 121 011 HX and 045 121 011 FX. The FX is a european part #. Impex list the H for $180.00 and HX for $76.00. It would be interesting if they are interchangable.

VW part numbers that end with an "X" are re-manufactured versions of the original. So, basically, it's the same part, just "fixed up" with new components...

Yuri.

PS: what shop is doing the work ??? I'm with aNUT and velociT...

My engine code is BKC (very similar to BRM, just European). ETKA says water pump should be used p/n 045 121 011 F. However, dieselgeek and others offer WP ending with H in their TB kits. Will that WP fit my engine? Anyone?

Did they order the 05 one or the 05.5 one?
They ordered part #038 121 011G originally. I am assuming that is for an 05. Maybe for a BEW. I don't know the part #'s that well.

The correct one they received this morning is a 045 121 011F.

They have already installed it.

The shop is Folks Café in Santa Cruz, CA, (formally Volks Café, they had to stop using the name for legal reasons). They are in the "recommended mechanics" list on this web site.

PS: This is the first BRM cam Failure they have seen.

Heh. That means that 011F can fit into BRM (which is what my BKC needs). Does that mean that 011H (which BRM has) will fit my BKC? :D
