Is seems these just plug right in to the fuel lines?

How do the filter costs compare to stock?

yes that's the correct.

as far as filter costs it depends which element you choose. there are several in various micron ratings. they all last longer than the stock filter.

I know these say Jetta on the order page, will they fit a Beetle also?

i used to make beetle brackets but it took 2 years to sell the 10 prototypes that i never made a production run. so other than the bracket, yet it will fit.
