Dave, sorry to hear about the failure. There are other threads on here with the same dilemma. At a minimum, I would guess you will need to buy a used HPFP and have the injectors and fuel system cleaned to get it to run. Search for the other threads and see how they handled the problem.Hi All,
Not sure if anyone can help. Looks like the HPFP on our 09 Jetta TDI has just given up the ghost. The car has 125k on the clock so out of the extended warranty as well Our return date for the car has been set for the end of January so somehow we need to get the car running (limping) to the VW shop under it's own steam.
We did take the car to a VW "specialist" and he told us it was a HPFP failure. The car turns over but won't start, does anyone know of anyway we could get the car going it we towed it closer for a short 100 yards drive to the VW centre so that we can return the car without having to spend $1000's on repairs just to return it???? One suggestion was to bypass the solenoid????
I have a feeling this is going to be painful.
Good luck Dave. When the HPFP shreds itself, metal debris goes all over the fuel system and injectors. It won't start because the fuel rail pressure is sensed as too low. I believe KERMA Tdi (member here and Vendor) has a service to clean the injectors. New injectors are expensive. Thanks for that aja888, I read the thread and seems like I'm going to have to get it repaired before it goes back to VW :-( I'll keep looking to see if anyone found another solution.
Glad to know it went so well! I am still waiting - they asked for proof of purchase a few weeks ago and then emailed that my documents were complete again and they were deciding "if you are eligible." Unlike you, I did not wait until after the September deadline to settle with insurance, so am a little worried they will say it does not qualify.Buyback completed! I towed it actually into the dealership on a tow dolly. I parked next to the building and unloaded it. There were no windows on the side I parked, so nobody actually saw me unload it. I drove it around front and parked it. The specialist was on lunch when I came in. So she hadn't seen the vehicle yet. I told her the car had some damage right off the back. She was giving me a hard time at first. Saying I needed info from the accident and that they were told not to take certain cars back. I then started showing her the court documents, stating that condition didn't matter...needs to run under it's own tdi, price is frozen to last years value...blah blah blah. I also stated that I was advised by the hotline team more then once, that if the car drove under it's own power, it was good to go. She Imessaged someone on here phone for a few minutes, and then asked for the keys. This was actually the first she looked at the car. LOL, the look on her face. She started taking pictures of everything. She was really fascinated by all the blown airbags(that I actually cut out, but the wheel and headliner were destroyed). She finally started the car and took pictures of the mileage and it running. After a few more minutes of chatting on her phone and pushing from me... We finally proceeded. I actually got the receipt email before I filled out the paperwork. Once everything was filled and I had my copies... I was on my way.
The moral of this story is... Don't take no for an answer! They are being told different things, but not the facts. The court documents are there for a reason and to keep problems from happening.
Oh! I also got more money, because my mileage was 22,789 instead of the projected 30,000+.
I definitely had no desire of dealing with totaling the car and getting the salvage title and all that. So, glad I just held onto it and took care of it the way I did. I got my Chase email last night and this morning I am $7633 richer after loan payoff.Glad to know it went so well! Totaled between June 28 & Sept 15 but not given to insurance = ok, qualifies, per settlement lawyer. (I kept car & applied myself for salvage title mid summer)
But VW may parse that sentence to say Totaled = totaled.
We'll see.
I did. Car was sandwiched (rear-ended, pushed into the car in front of me), radiator was leaking, but it started and drove without issues. Put my insurance claim on hold until after I turned in the car, just in case. Had the car towed to the VW dealer, and they took it back without issue. Just got the insurance payment today. See http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=468293 for more of my story.Any other success stories regarding turning in a wrecked vehicle?
I wouldn't.Also, should I contact anyone at VW and tell them it is wrecked before showing up to the appointment? Thanks.
