That car is 14 years old. Hardly new. JETaah's advice is good. Have a guru look at it. Don't know where you are in IL, but if you're in Chicagoland consider heading up to Oregon, WI to Jason's TD repair. He's worked on more BRMs than most of us have ever seen.
BRMs are good cars, and people love them, but they have some common problems that, if known, are pretty easily addressed. Cam wear, engine wiring harness breaking, door harness issues, heater core hoses failing, and the usual issues of flywheel and timing belt service. They also tend to break one of the big intercooler pipes. And turbo actuators get tired, causing all kinds of running problems (limp mode, poor DSG shifting, smoke, low FE).
Get it checked out or do some homework here and do it yourself if you're willing. With good maintenance it will give long and reliable service.
