But I don't understand why anyone would be in a hurry to have their car fixed now so they can sell it back later.
Is it possible that Ontario might require documentation of at least a Stage 1 fix to allow for the annual license plate sticker renewal say starting in...2018?

I have bit the bullet and ordered a new golf comfortline to lease. I expect this should speed up the buyout process as VW will want to deal with the customers who have a car sitting on the dealers lot first, so they can get their money. My thought.

I hope so, my wife's new 5-sp manual TSI wagon is scheduled to be built this week, so it should roll up from Mexico fairly soon, as in early April. By then I guess (hope?) the courts will have approved the settlement and we can get on with our (automotive) lives.

I'm probably looking forward to it more than my wife, she really likes her TDI but is unwilling to take the risk of a botched repair. Since the car is off the main warranty, and is approaching the end of the powertrain warranty (less 12k km to go), we figured a brand-new wagon for $3k plus taxes and delivery (I estimate $7k total out of pocket, minus any applicable discounts), 4/5 years more warranty, etc., made sense.

I would say very unlikely. Stage 1 fix does not result in meeting emission req'ts and it would be unfair to pick on owners of gen 3 TDIs while the settlement program is still rolling out (until end of 2018). I am not sure that any fix will be imposed on any TDIs even after the end of 2018 (but thats just me).

VW doesn't get a say in jack when it comes to the admin process, and I highly doubt that 'cars on the lot' will speed up anything.

Lease returns have been mentioned as the priority because they don't have the pesky loan piece attached.

The local dealer's staff are doing the inspections, probably not scheduling the buyback/trade appointments though. They will have the information to tell you your car's values when that becomes available, so they may have some "influence". Its Mar 21, we should know something real soon.

I don't remember reading anything about lease returns being put ahead as a priority?? Was this something that was done in the U.S. ? All I can remember is that someone said lease returns should go smoother due to the fact their is no loan , buyback or CBB calculators to deal with.... Just a strait forward transaction I'm guessing ??

Yeah I also did not see anything like that, in fact I thought I read the opposite. Lease appointments were delayed from what it looks like a month before the first Buyback appointment started.. and collect another payment from all the leases.

Quebec's court date is today, a couple hours ago. Maybe they gag ordered it, dunno.
I know that there is one in Quebec today but what I was saying is that they will probably hide everything until the one in Toronto happens next week.

Court is open to TDI owners and maybe even the public in general. Even if there is nothing official we should hear something from the press or some fearless TDI forum member.

Jebus - the 400's weren't made to driven at 140km/hr and most of the Onterrible drivers I've seen out there or here in BC shouldn't be driving much faster then 100km/hr on a good day.

Is it the 31st yet?

Amen to that. I've been commuting along time up and down the 400 and if you don't tailgate in the fast lane, some retard has to cut in front of you. Most of the time, I just stay in the middle or slow lane. It's not worth the extra 3 minutes I could possibly gain. Way too many "road rage-aholics" ruining the drive.

Still waiting to see if I can keep my ride or be forced into giving it back.

According to the latest gossip on the Facebook page, there were registered objections in the Quebec settlement today, which has caused a delay. This hasn't been confirmed yet, so take it with a grain of salt.

According to the Facebook group there were 3 substantial objections that VW has until the 29th to respond to.

Take that for what it's worth.

Oh great. My wife's new TSI wagon is being built this week. I hope we won't have to delay too long. Any idea what the objections were? I don't do facebook.

Nobody will force you to give it back. It will boil down to an economic/risk decision: risk that any potential repair will be a fail, and weighing the economic impact of taking the buyback or keeping the car with the handout money.

Don't know the objections yet. Same guy said there was a reporter there that will do a story on it.. So hopefully today/tomorrow.

Read this from a fellow on FB
Just left a VW Orillia information session.
I don't work for VW, but my dealer session was extremely well done and everyone had questions answered with all detail available legally right now by Colin from Orillia VW.
March 31st 2016 is the Ontario court decision on the fix being tested for 2009-2014 vehicles.
April 1st the three option site goes live.
You decide:
1. Wait for the possible fix - only 2015 now
2. Trade in - no negotiations on value
3. Buy back
Based upon your choice you register and have a check list of items to bring to your appointment with a TDI specialist at the dealer. The TDI specialist at the dealer appointment is a roughly 35-45 minute session.
If you choice is buy back at your appointment.
You have 2,000.00 kilometres maximum in 25 days of usage. On the 25th day you get your cheque. If you go over 2,000.00 kilometres the process and 25 days starts again.
Your kilometres at your TDI meeting registered is calculated from the day you make your appointment and estimated to the date of September 2015. NOT THE ACTUAL September 2015 value of the kilometres.
You have till June 15th 2018 to make your choice. You can still have the buy back and drive till June 15th 2018.
Incentives now to buy another VW is a 0.5% discount on current financing rate. More purchase incentives will be announced April 1st 2016.

^Thanks for sharing. If settlement is approved it sounds like this buyback is going to start moving more quickly.

The multiple trips to the dealer is interesting too.

Thanks for posting PtPlayers, just saw the Facebook post as well. I came home the other night and found a message on the answering machine, from the local VW dealer. It wasn't for an "info nite" for customers involved in diesel gate but more of a " we have three individuals here at the dealer that have been fully trained to answer any questions you should have involving your choices once the court approval has been finalized ".. Feel free to call if like....

At least things seem to be moving along. I went to go move my parked Jetta last week before the snow storm and couldn't get it to start. I better figure out what it is.

This part (no clue if true) is pretty weird

What about people who need to drive day to day with the car still? I'm sure many bought a TDI to do some significant driving/commuting.

Well, that's exactly what they did for the buy back in the US.

It's a big bummer, as you mention, especially if there's no plan B like using a second car. But I don't think it's going to be any different in Canada.

Ah, ok, makes sense then. My bad, didn't even realize.

I'll be ok since I have one TDI parked. And currently my wife's TDI averages 1800km/month. But I feel for those who do higher mileage and won't have a replacement car ready before the buyback.

That could be a problem. For my wife and I, that's about our monthly mileage on her wagon, on average, but that includes summer vacation road trips. So for April, we won't have any problems and for some time now we've been using mostly my car to keep mileage down on hers, anticipating the buyback. I pray nobody wrecks it, but then we have replacement cost insurance on it anyway.

For people that drive a lot simply increase your mileage on the review date and add 2000 km to the odometer read out then you will be right on or close at buyout time. I would review the mileage class groups before setting a mileage for buyout check the web calculator.
