So I'm new to the TDI forums but I have been a loyal Jeep owner for the past couple of years and I'm a pretty big boat guy making me a huge fan of diesels.

Here is my first post and intro: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=380782

Here is my build from my soon to be sold Jeep: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f197/apollo21-build-thread-902929/ I'm only leaving the Jeep world for a short time as I plan to pick up a project CJ8 Scrambler and make it a weekend warrior with a 3.3 4BT Cummins swap. Hopefully I get that rolling this summer if I get enough free time.

I bought my TDI because I drive a lot. Most weekends I will end up doing 500-700 miles and at 19mpg that wasn't ideal. So I flew down to NC and picked up my current Golf with 120K.

My first piece of work was a log book and record binder. Followed by having the rear view mirror glued back on. Right now I'm dealing with my dealer in order to have my fender rust replaced free of charge.

As I have more time this weekend I'll post pictures, and some future plans for the next year.

So my first stage will be taking care of the work list. Basically getting everything into a state where I am more than happy with it as a daily driver. Then I will get to the mod stage.

1. Boost Leak. Cleaned engine bay and figured it was at the intake manifold hose going to the inter cooler. I order a doggie collar to remedy this. http://www.kermatdi.com/servlet/the-378/Intake/Detail
2. Arm rest it gross and the hinge is broken. Getting new one from online.http://www.fixmyvw.com/products.html#!/~/product/category=4576233&id=20495221
3. Seat fold down latch is broken, going to the dealer today to get a new one. http://writen4u.hubpages.com/hub/How-to-fix-a-Broken-Rear-Seat-Release-Latch-VW-MKIV-DIY
4. My headlights are yellow and the previous owner had done angry eyes with a sharpie. http://www.protuninglab.com/hid-pro-yd-vg99-bk.html
5. The passenger door recognizer is broken http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?p=730184
6. Headunit deciding between these 2: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130X700BT/Pioneer-FH-X700BT.html#details-tab http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KWHR81B/JVC-KW-HDR81BT.html#details-tab
7. Touch up on the paint. Doing bondo on a small dent and touch up paint/primer/clear coat. I know i have Reflex Silver not sure which code though yet. I have to go check the trunk sticker. http://www.automotivetouchup.com/
8. Soda stains on upholstery, look pretty old. I'm gonna have them steam cleaned.

Did wash and wax the other day and removed the old engine foam dampeners. I'm probably going to clean the EGR and manifold tonight.

I took the EGR and cam cover off.The good news it the EGR is now clean. The bad news is I'm pretty sure they have been using incorrect oil and the cam shows that bad news copper color. I took some pics that I will post later.

I also drained the water out of my fuel filter. There was very little.

I was gonna ask for an oil preference. I've been an Amsoil guy but that seems like a sore subject because it isn't VW certified. So I'm open to recommendations.

This is right after I picked her up in NC. This is taken at an overlook on the Skyline Drive (Best road in America- Top Gear) in VA.

Can you snap a better picture of the "sharp lobe" that you found? With that much copper showing I would expect to see a few worn lobe tips.

Unfortunately, I put everything back together last night as I needed to drive it today.

The lobe wasn't sharp, it just wasn't round like the others. It had a very discernible raised ridge. This would mean I should also look into having the lifters replaced?

Got my KermaTDI "Dog Collar" today already installed it with the new gasket. Whistling is not as loud but still there from 1.9K on So obviously turbo based but not sure where now as it sounds as if it's coming from near the EGR.

So I went all out this weekend. Wash, dry, clay bar, wax. Cleaned everything then rainxed. I ordered a bunch of that stuff on line and I will start to install it in the next week as it arrives. I will be sure to post pics.

My boost leak is still present at start up once the engine is at temp for a while it goes away to an almost "ideal" turbo noise. I'm guessing the gasket needs to swell. I can see where the leak is. It is right where the ring clips in on top. Is this because my hole is worn or because my replacement gasket is smaller than the original?

So got some work done today. First i tore apart the dash to extend my key fob antenna range. http://billswebspace.com/ExtendingMKIVKeyFobAntennaRange.htm The write up is kinda incomplete you are really pulling everything in the dash from the clusters down. That took about an hour.

Then i decreased and power washed my undercarriage. Dirty work but it looks brand new now. I then sprayed some Fluid Film after scraping of some surface rust and repainting.
