Well. It took 3 weeks to get my 98 Jetta back on the road. Mostly due to the holidays but also due to a parts delivery snafu that delayed the final repair a whole week.

Here's what I accomplished:

Oil/Filter Change. Oil cooler gasket. Thermostat. T-stat housing. lower rad hose. Drain/Fill coolant. New Vibration damper. Reinstalled Turbo Oil Line bracke.t Swap on snow tires. Install Marinco electrical inlet (for ZeroStart coolant heater). New Glow plug harness. Patched right fender liner using black plastic cut from an oil jug! Cleaned MAF.

I don't see any coolant leaks (had one following the t-stat swap and waited on a new plastic elbow and o-ring that attaches to the t-stat housing). It will get a thorough test early in the AM tomorrow as I have a 30 mile highway drive to a work site. At least during my testing the coolant temp gets up to middle of the gauge now!

It will be nice not to drive the Dodge Dakota with its 15-16 mpg and $60+ fill-ups!
