2011 JSW with three pedals
Long story short- I bought a 2011 JSW from PA and it has been to the shop now 3 times for the same EGR codes (I checked with VAGCOM before going to the dealer). I figured it was under warranty as the 'fix' was done Sep 2018 with 106k and I have 117k on it now. The advisor called me yesterday to tell me that the tech had dug further into the wiring harness, at my insistence, and found that there was significant corrosion on three wires and they recommended, naturally, full harness replacement at a cost of $1700- apparently NOT under the extended warranty. He did provide me with the 'address' of the affected wires: Term 2 T60/34, Term 5 T60/41, and Term 6 T60/49.

How is the engine harness not covered under the OBD portion of the warranty?

Page 9 states "The On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system, any malfunctions detected by the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system other than those related to the transmission"

I am pretty decent with a wrench, and have done just about everything to my multiple TDIs over the years EXCEPT for tb jobs as I don't trust myself to actually do it right on the first try without an expert hand to assist.

The quoted part price is over $700, which I know can be purchased direct from VW for a few hundred less- how intensive of a job is it to replace the entire harness or just locate the wires and splice them? Does anyone have a breakout of the wiring harness diagram I can have? This seems to be the one job without a video on youtube.

Buy a one day subscription and download everything you care to in 24 hours. Then you have everything you could ever want. All for the small price of $35. I would escalate this to VWoA and discuss it with them, first. Don't forget all disagreements are to be settled in favor of the consumer, either. Bring up the class action lawyers if they balk.

How do you escalate it with VWoA? I had an online chat with a rep today and they sent a parts list of what is actually covered (see below). Seems as though it is everything under the hood BUT the harness. If it shouldn't be covered, then I am good with it. I just don't want to be bamboozled by 'the man'. Thanks for the subscription info.

I wonder how much I could actually download in 24hrs...sorry kids! no netflix, daddy needs the bandwidth!

My 2010 Jetta had issues with radiator temperature sensor and the dealer said the same thing; they covered the temperature sensor under warranty but the to repair the wire causing the short, they charged me ~450 Dollars.

OBD and class settlement extended warranty issues.

Probably my first time posting, hope I'm not too obscure. We have 2013 Beetle TDI, took the emissions mod under the settlement. Since the settlement, We have had two OBD issues pop up on the dash. The first one (after the settlement) was the P2015 code; I was not familiar with the settlement terms, so did not fight the dealer when they said it wasn't covered (not an emissions problem, which is in itself probably untrue- - the intake manifold malfunction certainly must impact the exhaust and emissions systems). So, I remedied that myself with the Dieselgeek L-bracket gizmo, which has worked fine; the engine light and the code (including the dpf light) turned off (after about 15 re-starts) (if you're not familiar with the dieselgeek device, and your car throws that P2015 code, google it, it's great).

Now, the OBD has lit the engine light, and is also showing the engine control malfunction symbol. Clearly the settlement terms require this to be repaired (we ARE still within the mileage and time limits). But I expect the dealership to sing the same false tune about applicability of the extended warranty.

What I'm wondering is, has anybody had to take this kind of dispute with local dealership service) back to the class plaintiff counsel, and has that been helpful? ( I've already chatted online with VW customer "support" to ask if they will get involved when the dealership tries to screw us; they state that they "have to" defer to the dealership's judgment call on applicability of warranty terms. Clearly, VW consumer relations policies have not changed much since they conducted the actual emissions fraud scheme.)

(Sorry for the lengthy post. Just trying to arm myself with experience of sophisticated TDI owners.)

There are just too many to list....
The intake manifold most certainly IS covered, and lots of people have had them replaced under the warranty.

However, even when they DO cover things that they SHOULD anyway, many people just grow tired of the constant nuisance and have no wish to know all the dealer service writers on a first name basis. That's why deletes become so popular. You car will run better, use less fuel, and you won't really need the warranty anyway.

I have heard though that some cars are getting some software updated after the "fix" update to correct some things, but I have no hard confirmation of that.

The intake manifold issue is a well known thing even before Dieselgate, which is why DG came up with that repair kit in the first place.

Isn't there an updated manifold part at this point? I thought I saw a note about that here.

Just saw this. Thanks very much for the reply, it's helpful. I guess these extended warranties will terminate within a few months, either via time limit or mileage, so these issues will just be mechanical, not legal exactly. All I know is, it's a fun car to drive, it's actually my wife's and she loves everything about it (manual six-speed, ragtop, nice leather interior). It burns just under one quart of the 507 crankcase oil between oil changes, which for 140,000 miles is fine.

The car is currently at a dealership, awaiting parts- - they claim it needs a new DPF, which will be under the warranty, but that's a little concerning - - how long will a new DPF last with the emissions modifications they did, I doubt anybody knows.

Well the warranty is for a fairly long stretch. They will be required to replace stuff under warranty until that time passes for everyone. Mine is for 12 years or 162k miles and I have only currently owned it for 3 years and 35k miles. It was a new stop sale car. So for most the warranty will be more than a few months. Unless you are the original owner who didn't turn in or bought a high mileage turn in car.
