Hey guys,

I was at the dealer today having some warranty rust stuff looked at for my car, and noticed something. On most of the 2014 vehicles, Toureg, MK7 GTI, and Jetta, the transmission were labeled as made in Japan? Also, the new GTI is being made in Mexico again along with its engine. The Toureg engine was made in Slovakia if I remember correctly. One other vehicle, the engine was labeled as Hungry.

Anyhow, any idea why the transmissions would be made in Japan? I think the Germans make some pretty good transmissions, and engines for that matter.

Just an observation I wanted to share.

Cheers

Aisin is the largest transmission supplier in the world. You'll find them in just about all manufacturer's cars and trucks. They are reported to be very reliable. The 8 speed in the Touareq is excellent, BTW. As far as why..like most things in the automotive world, it comes down to $$$.
