I have a 2006 Jetta TDI 162k. Today I was driving and the battery light came on and I pulled off the road was going around 55mph I feel I turned the engine off before it die. The serpentine belt was shredded. Put a new one on and it wouldn’t start back. What could cause this? I seen could be the timing belt, I hope not.

Did any of the spaghetti like pieces get underneath the timing belt cover and wrap around the crank pulley? Causing it to jump time.

I did try to jump start it. I only found half the belt. Replaced it on the side of the road, when it wouldn’t start I had it towed to my work, and was going to mess with it on Monday.
