Hmm. You shure it was the EGR and not the intake changeover vlave? On my car, its actuated by a vaccuum diaphram, and has a strong spring which pushes it back open. On your car, its driven by a small eletric motor. I wonder if this is something we'll see more and more of as the EGRs on the PDs gum up.

It was the egr valve and your right its driven by an electric motor. The mechanic said the valve was stuck closed and that will keep your car from not starting. It happened when i first had car around 3000km and 5000 and now at 30000km. It happened with my golf to though it lost power but would start.
