I have been trying to locate and reduce vibration that is occuring in my '02 NB. I have had most of the suspension replaced, tires balanced, etc.

The only thing left is the motor/transmission mounts; I think. My question is how much 'effort' is required to replace these and can they be replaced by an average shade tree mechanic? I do all my own day-to-day maintence and let well known names from the forum do my timing belt work.

The NB is a 5-speed and it has 105k miles on it, mostly highway.

Thanks in advance for your wise & knowlegable assistance.

If you have a "Herm-o-hanger" or two jacks, replacing motor mounts shouldn't be difficult. I would be surprised if that were the problem, but... I have not seen broken motor mounts on an ALH yet. That doesn't mean they aren't toasted. I would love to take a trip to CO to climb in a month or two, so if you want I could bring my herm-o-hanger or an extra jack and give you a hand.

The easiest mount to check is the dogbone. I've had one fail and that added a ton of vibration. Its right up front and you dont need any jacks or hangers to remove/replace it.

Look underneath the car at the front of the motor and you'll see it.
