Quick front right turn signal bulb replacement question

Greetings all -

I searched all of the faqs and forums, but oddly, I can't find
anything on how or what to remove to gain access to replace
the bulb for the front right turn signal.

It seems like the intercooler piping is in the way, as well as
other things that don't want to move out of the way or
disconnect.

Any help would be appreciated. I've forced too many things
in the past and broken too many things doing so, thus I'm
being careful. It's an 01 Jetta.

Thanks!

You might want to take a careful look at the plastic cover. If it is the same setup as my 2002.5 NB, there is a small amber square plastic part that will pop out with little effort and give you access to the screw that holds the cover on. Very easy access, but not obvious.

The Jetta has the front signal as part of the headlight. There should be enough access to remove the black rectangle cover from the back of the headlight. The bulb holder can then be removed.

The black rectangle cover doesn't want to remove itself, oddly.
I may have to use more force than I like.

Thanks, though. This does mean that it should be as simple
as it looks, and therefore, there must be a trick to getting that
cover off and out of there entirely.

The metal retaining clip can be a bit of a pita. I've used a smallish screwdriver to lift the clip up over the notch in the plastic that holds it in place. After doing that it was easy going.

The tab on the headlight housing itself or the little bar on the black box cover thingy?

The release tab on the cover it self. Housing is fine. Had I not lost in the engine bay somewhere I would have tried to fix it lol. I'm cheap like that

Call some junk yards. Any 99.5-2005 Jetta headlight will have them.

Just FYI I believe that cover is on a hinge (doesn't come completely off the housing) as far as I could tell when I replaced my bulb. Something to keep in mind before a trip to the junk yard.

Both of the tabs on my housings are busted from taking off those covers. A drill and two zap straps later, the covers stay in place. I'm Irish like that.

I'll look into that. Not too worried as it's hidden behind the air duct panels(?), so if not hinged I'm not gonna loose it, but it drives me nuts knowing its broke.....

*Judson; sorry for hijacking your thread*

You don't really need to go in there too often, so drill, zap strap, and forget. Mine have been like that for years.
