Your a/c works just like your diesel. It takes some work to get it going from a dead stop, but once its up and running its almost effortless to keep it moving.

Anyway, I vented my tank a couple weeks ago and set out for 800. Lots of coasting, lots of tailgaters, lots of pissed off people (I'm used to it now). I was running incredibly well, I hit 425 miles at the half way mark and thought meybe even 900 for the tank. Then I installed H&R sport springs with Koni orange and BBS RC's to top it off. Immediately I felt the wheels, rolling resistance increased and some extra weight to boot. Well my light came on at 735 and ended up at the petro station with 823.3 on the dash. Unfortunately I didn't vent my tank again so I'm not sure of the mileage but it took 13 gallons before the pump clicked off.

This tank was a mixed bag for driving conditions. Highway, city, stop and go, 60 mph cruising (and coasting), hills, flat land, windows up/down, a/c on/off. I work M-F 8-5 and drive 27 miles each way. My 75lb Weimaraner was in the car for about half of the time but otherwise the car was empty. This car just keeps on impressing me.

Well it might not be that big a deal for those with smaller tanks but I just hit my first 800 mile tank on the NMS. 823.7 to be exact with a 50/50 city/highway mix.

I've been on pace for several but this is the first time I actually went ahead and clicked one over. Hopefully there will be many more. :)

2013 Passat 6M. So yesterday I drove 775 miles nonstop (not even a piss stop) from Murphysboro, IL to Gainesville, FL. Arrived with over 100 miles showing remaining on the MFI and the low fuel light still wasn't on with just over 1/4 of a tank left on the gauge. Cruise set at 75 the whole way. Temps started in the mid 60's and reached 93F. Perfect winds out of the NW at 10 to 15 MPH for most of the trip. MFI showed 53.7 MPG. Hand calculated fill up showed 49 mpg with 15.8 gallons. I think the wind was a major contributing factor. The car could have gone another 150 miles pretty easy. I, on the other hand, could not!

775 is not 800... just sayin'. You must hit 800 to post here. :p

I would have posted long ago if "range" counted. :)

Any reason you didn't drive another 25 miles?

I finally made it. I never thought it was possible with a BRM and DSG until I installed an Ecotune from Green Diesel Engineering. I had one tank over 700 in the first 3 years and since the tune almost every tank is over 700.

I feel like I'm cheating here;

I could have easily gone over 1000 miles, but it was late and I was tired, so I had to settle for 973.

Toledo OH to Lancaster PA and back on one tank.

813 miles for a 53mpg tank. Best tank before this was 762. I think I was fortunate with my commute for the week and the wind direction and A/C usage, but something that angered me was how much farther I could have gone had a 3 hour drive home from DC not taken 5 hours. Still amazed at the result given the 2 hour traffic grind home!
Something that I've noticed is that my best ever tanks have all been when I've filled at a Scotchman Shell station in Wilmington, NC. The first one came, so I thought to fill there again...then another, and another. Not sure what they're putting in there, but I also try and fill at a Hess on my way home in Suffolk, VA that has a 45 cetane sticker on their pumps with not as good results. Both stations are truck stations around the back/side.

800 mile club at last!!!

Yes! Finally figured out how to get the additional fuel in the car to do it. 804.3 miles, 16.7 gallons. 48.11 mpg. only mod was the right foot. First tank (after I figured out how to squeeze 16.7 gallons in) measured out to 764 miles, and that was pretty normal driving for me. 45 mpg. All of my other fuel fill ups have obviously not filled completely and measurements on previous mpg's are not accurate. But 45 mpg appears to be my standard of normal driving. Now I'll see if I can do better than 48 over the course of the next few tanks.
and if I can figure out how to add the picture...

I never thought I would post in this group but I have recently been trying to milk the mileage.
97 Jetta 311K original owner.
I have gotten 46-47 MPG the entire life of this car. No matter what I did. After I hit 300K and I had "a NEW car" I though I would see what she could do.
I started by driving only up to 65 and got high 48-50ish
I dropped to between 55-65 and it went to 53ish.
I got a flat and it took 2 weeks to get new tires shipped in so I was stuck at 50 for almost 2 tanks.
I ran 1 full tank on a doughnut tire going 50 and hit
872 frikin miles
I filled up with 14.2 gallons for 61.4MPG
I am very much tempted to do a ventectomy and all the tricks I have heard of to get more fuel in, and try for 900 miles. If I had a jug of fuel in the trunk I would have run it dry and Im sure I could have gotten to 900.

I love this car

Nice too see this thread still up. My top so far in an mk3 tdi was 861.25miles. Driving from Toronto to Nova Scotia with 300lbs in my trunk in tools and crap...etc...etc...

Today i picked up a used 2000 golf tdi, so in 2 months or so after i fix it up. I'm going to attempt to see how it does.

Driving the vehicle back from the seller with timing retarded, injectors not balanced, blocked of egr, leaking hole in ccv, dragging brake and winter tires. The fuel gauge is almost at the red line and it's listing the vehicle trip odometer at 656.25 miles.

Pretty sure I could have easily gone across the 900 mark.

But then, I would have to fill up sometime on way to work and or risk getting stuck in traffic.

I had a refill at 650- then at 745 and now at 845.. If timing is correct, I'll try and get the next one closer or higher than 900.
