they have been mountedand balanced on our 205 boch bench . car runs great but blows a significant amount of black smoke. we experimented with them because of the price . ! am building a set with some bosch dlsa 205 tips to compare.

the test puppyis a manual swapped 2002 jetta with the original 11mm pump. IQ set at 6.0 to clean the idle up.

I ran bosio .205s on a manual swapped car with my IQ set at 3.8 for about a year. If they're smoking bad they either are junk nozzles or not calibrated right.

If I read correctly you have an 11mm pump. In theory the 11mm pump will make the nozzles act like they are one size larger than they actually are. So which Bosch bench are they being set up on, and what are your pop pressures?

yes its an 11mm pump, the test bench is a Bosch EPS 205. we shot for 220 and 300 , they are all within 6% of each other .

Black smoke is a bad sign, means the fuel is not atomizing very well.

You know the balance off the bench, but what does VCDS say about the injector balance when the engine is running? I agree if you are getting lots of smoke the fuel is not being atomized well, and/or the timing may be retarded, and/or you may not be getting full boost. Setting the IQ isn't as cut-and-dried as it may sound... Do you remember what the IQ was before the nozzles were changed? Black smoke is not only a bad sign, but it may be causing your EGT's to get much higher than they should be.
High EGT's for too long, is well documented to cause turbo damage.
