Anyone have any good idea for replacement fasteners for the engine side skirts? I've tried finding a nut and a few various other things but haven't had much luck. The stock ones cause a lot of cursing from me when trying to get them off...

I use a long flat screw driver to remove/install the stock ones. Just put the screw driver between the fins and turn it.

Greetings to all. Been a while since I posted on here, but thought I'd pass this along...

Resurrecting a year old post, but it's exactly on the topic I intended...

By accident, I found the "real deal" original round metal internal star fasteners used for the side skirts on MKIV's. Not sure if it's ok to post a direct link to a seller, so I'll just describe one path that leads to them-

Rock Auto

Audi
2006
A4
2.0T
Engine
Engine Heat Shield Retainer / Clip

It's a 3 piece set consisting of (what we know as MKIV Jetta / Golf...)
1 round star fastener for side skirt attachment to subframe
1 belly pan screw
1 snap-in sheet metal nut (in subframe, accepts belly pan screw)

AKA Dorman 700086
The above for 0.49ea, but sold in groups of 10 so you have to commit to $5.00

I managed to force a 1/4 inch nylon nut and washer when my left side fell off last Summer, and it is still holding up.
