The one time I've de-gunked an IM I scraped every hole out best I could with china grade butter knives, into a trash bag-lined box. Then soaked the bugger in ~5 gallon bucket of Awesome(tm) degreaser for a week. Then took a few varied sized bottle brushes and went at it deep as possible, more rinsing with the degreaser and all nice and shiny.

I soak 'em in diesel fuel overnight. It just falls out after that, and a pressure washer finishes the job. Just don't put the "used" fuel in your tank after that! (Filtering it and keeping it as parts cleaner works just fine; diesel is an excellent parts cleaner for such things -- I have a 5 gallon can of it that I use for exactly that purpose.)

The fire method works too....

fire is the only way

spent days scrubbing mine in gasoline and still some more chunks came out when I tried torching it afterwords
Fire and compressed air work amazing...I love cleaning intakes this way...fast and the pyro aspect is just a bonus
