I have the standard bushing leak on the EGR valve on my 2006 Jetta TDI. 170K miles. I've read the various threads on the issue and don't like any of the solutions. The bushing shown in this thread does not have the correct dimensions as well as requiring grinding and welding to install. Not cool for the average garage mechanic like me. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=234986
The other option is to install stove rope in the gap with a washer over the top. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=334169 This might seem like a valid option, but after giving it a try it quickly become clear that the rope does not hold the butterfly stem centered and in position. When the butterfly is out of position, it tends to get stuck partially open allowing exhaust to flood the inlet at all times.
I am looking for a used (garbage) cooler to use for dimensional purposes. I want to make a two part bushing that can be installed by anybody mechanical enough to pull the drive axle and EGR actuator. Shoot me a PM. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
