AHU Fully mechanical TB tensioner or Automatic tensioner ?

I got a contitech Timing belt kit today and found that the kit includes the old style mechanical tensioner ,should i use it or change it for the automatic type one ..?

Sounds like you got a belt kit for a 1.6L diesel or 1.9L turbo (AAZ engine code).

Definitely change it for the spring-loaded TDI style!

I don't think so but there's a good chance you'll lose the timing, these things never really go to plan so I would get the tdc lined up and lock it all off so it can't move, you normally slacken the cam bolt anyway and leave it loose until the tensioner is all set and tightened up first.:)
