front brake pads with sensor

None now. Former: 2011 335d, 2010 Jetta TDI, 2003 Jetta TDI Wagon. 99.5 Jetta TDI, 98 NB TDI, 3 different black 96 Passat TDI wagons.
Most of the pads come with the sensor wire. If you don't need it, you can just snip it flush. There is not a huge price difference. Pay more attention to the quality of the pads.

No, you do not need those pads. When you install the new pads (sans wear sensor) simply do the Vag-Com adaption to eliminate the break pad wear alarm/light.
