I've heard largely positive remarks about the buyback specialists, and got to meet one today. She hasn't had to do a single transaction yet, folks around here seem to be in no hurry to turn in their TDIs. So she's been studying up on TDIs, reading the lengthy settlement documents, and even reading TDIers blogs. I told her about TDI club and hopefully she'll stop in here. Found out that the dealership is allowing folks to drop their failing or failed TDIs off there while they wait for the buyback to be processed, they also sent out a mailing to all their TDI customers to remind them that they have a buyback specialist available to help.

To be honest, the quality of these folks make them a real asset to VW... Even though they can't sell new VWs directly, I think they may indirectly be the best salespeople VW's ever had.

It's rather pathetic, yet unsurprising, that the best VW salespersons are non-VW employees.

Never trust a dealer

I have had very little interaction with my dealer since I bought the car nearly 3 yrs ago, sadly none of it was good.

When I had the car in for its first oil change i had them replace a fuse for me. Given the ridiculous location of the cig lighter, when pulling my phone charger it apparently allowed a penny in which shorted the fuse. I wasn't able to find the right fuse, but figured it would be a simple task for the stealer.... I was very sad to receive a bill for $20 when leaving. Really thought they'd comp me the fuse on a 3 month old car. Only $20 I know, and the world doesn't run on free stuff, but the job wasn't really worth $20. Lesson learned.

Recently, (October) I received a post card from the local stealer. Wanted to let me know they would be gracious enough to take my TDI off my hands, give me $11000 towards a trade. Called the stealer to find out what they were trying to pull when they had to know my car was worth $25k with the buyback? Told me they were just trying to help people who might not want to wait for the buyback. Told them they might want to remove my name from their mailing list or risk being turned in to states attorney general.

Some dealers definitely are better than others. Some others epitomize the stereotypical sleazy conniving salesman.

It will give me great satisfaction returning this well used car for nearly as much as I paid for it.

What exactly would the state attorney general do?
They would conduct an investigation, which requires lawyer types to poke around the showroom/managers office asking questions, bringing unwanted attention before the eyes of prospective customers. They would take depositions from those who may have experiences to share. This would all become obvious to the local community, certainly there are others who recieved the mass mailed post cards...
Ultimately, the Atty Gen would make a determination if the dealer had participated in any fraudulent, deceptive, misleading or illegal trade practices. If necessary they would either litigate or mediate on behalf of any affected customers.
The absolute best possible outcome for the dealer would be if they could convince the investigators they had the customers best interest in mind. This may possibly help offset the ire and distrust from the local community who have since decided to cease doing business with this dealer, for fear of being dealt with unfairly or unethically.

Did that answer your question?
If not, I'll get you their phone number and you can get their answer?

In many states, the Attorney General is elected, and the office will investigate and, where appropriate, prosecute in matters involving consumer fraud. In other states, not so much. New York's AG office engages in consumer protection activities.

I once ordered a 10 mcnuggets and only received 9, the AG office really stepped up to the plate and fought for me and got me my 10th mcnugget that I deserved!

BTW for replacing that fuse, I'm surprised the dealer didn't charge you $100.

That's because VW is so disorganized and incompetent that they haven't processed any claims for your area, 5+ weeks after the settlement was approved.

Has nothing to do with people not being in a hurry, and everything to do with VW's incompetence.

Your experience sounds exactly the same as mine.

Same fuse issue. I was shocked they charged me and my car was 2 months old. They also did the same thing with the trade in.

Same fuse issue.
In all fairness, I had a fuse issue (not the same issue I don't think -- was a while ago and I cannot remember the details though it was in a 12V system/cig plug -- was in my 2006 Passat gasser) in one of my VWs and the local dealer just fixed it for free when I asked him about while there for something else.

So some dealers have a clue.

I'll post this here too...

Returned the car Thursday December 1st. Did not get an email as a receipt, I was told it would show up within 24 hours. A day went by and I called the VW Claims line, they said they would escalate to the technical group for resolution and I would hear back in "two or thee business days". I called the TDI buy back specialist at the dealer at 2:00 yesterday and he had no idea what the problem was, he insists he did everything right. He was going to get ahold of whoever he needed to and call me back, didn't hear from him. I have no receipt and no EFT email either.
