Hey folks I am driving up to Montreal on Friday for the weekend for an ice hockey tournament. Staying in downtown Montreal, on Peel Street (Rue Peel) and DeMaisonneuve (can't spell) Any recomendations on places to eat, bars etc. Haven't been to Montreal in a few years, so my memory is a bit shaky. I know I have to take my radar detector down!

I haven't the faintest idea where that is, but we spent last weekend in Montreal, in the old part, near the Notre Dame Cathedral. We spent a night in a new (July '00) Marriot __ (forgot word) Suites. Very well integrated into the old buildings around it. Got a great special last minute (I guess) price on the Marriot website ($79 Canadian!) + $18 parking - breakfast included. We ate in a place called Bonaparte's, but there are bunches of places to eat down there.

All of this is probably irrelevant to you, but we had a good time.

It all depends on what you want to do and how old you are. There are places where i like to go (i'm 21) that others might not enjoy as much.
As for food well, there are so many places i dont know where to begin....just look for something you might like or even something new that you've never had..and there are good chances that it will be amazing

22 & GF is coming as well, staying at a Marriot also! Got a deal it was like $109 Candian a night for a suite! It includes breakfast as well, so I think its a pretty good deal.

Its one block north of St. Catherines Street and about 4 blocks from Crescent Street.

Nitejav: St. Catherine, St. Laurent have plenty to do, not sure what you like or are into but Montreal is a fun town. I had a nice meal in Old Montreal as the restaurants there are very good.
The casino is also alot of fun.. have a good time i'll be going up for the Jazz Festival in July.
By the way do you know you can save your receipts and get the tax dollars back in your pocket at the border. Their taxes are extremely high...

Peel's Pub on Peel near the corner of St. Catherine's has cheap beer and cheap wings. I would suggest a certain club on St. Catherine's, but unless your GF likes to look at naked women up close, it's probably not the right choice.

I've always have fun at the Montreal Casino... but it can get pretty crowded on a weekend night.
