2002 Golf GLS TDI
SOLD

I am selling a 2002 VW Golf GLS TDI with lots of extra bells and whistles. I have owned this car since 2013 and have put about 80,000 miles on it. The total mileage right now is 272,000 but it is running great. I have taken very good care of it over the years. Full synthetic oil changes since owning it. The exterior shows it’s age but the interior is in very good condition. I have all the service records/receipts since I purchased it and everything is up to date. There are some nice performance upgrades (nothing too crazy) as well as some esthetic upgrades. Below is long list describing the overall condition, the upgrades, and the recent service that has been performed. I should mention that I replaced the exhaust downpipe and catalytic converter in 2016 with an aftermarket set from ID parts. The cat is not CARB approved for California so this car will not pass smog there until the cat is replaced. Hopefully I didn’t leave anything out but please don’t hesitate to ask questions.

Thank you, Jonathan

Exterior: The paint is not faded but there are areas of external rust where the paint has chipped off. A little sanding and some touch-up paint or vinyl covers may be a good idea. There is no rot from rust as this car spent the first 11 years in California. Any rust is just on the surface. The only damage to the body panels is a dent on the driver front fender as can be seen in the pics. The windows are tinted but the tint has some scratches and a few tears.

Interior: Overall the interior is very clean with minimal damage considering it’s 17 years old. There is the typical wear and scratches to the soft-touch areas a split seam on the driver’s seat that is common for GLI seats. The headliner is in great shape and is not sagging.

Known Issues:
-During wide open throttle under load you can hear a chirp/whistle that sounds like a boost leak. It only lasts for a split second. I had my local TDI shop look into it and they confirmed that it is not the turbo but were unable to locate the leak. It doesn't affect performance in any noticable way. When I switch to the stock tune it no longer happens.
-Occasionally the turn signal/hazards make click for no apparent reason. I think it might be from poor turn signal connections in the steering column but I haven't tried to fix it. It can be a little annoying at first but you get used to it.
-At the moment the low wiper fluid warning does not want to turn off after filling. This just happened and I'm working on fixing it.

Upgrades:
• Frostheater: This is a must have for cold climates. Plug it in at night and the coolant will be preheated in the morning. Easier starts and faster to operating temp. No more premature battery and starter failure.
• Powerpoint 502 Nozzles
• Malone Tuning Stage 1.5 with Dynamic EGR: This is a nice power upgrade without the need for an upgraded turbo or clutch. 32HP and 34 torque increase. The dynamic EGR activates the EGR system during warm-up and then shuts it down once at operating temp. This significantly reduced the carbon buildup.
• Malone Flashzilla: This allows you to switch between the original stock tune and the stage 1.5 tune.
• Suspension: Koni FSD Shocks with Eibach Springs: The FSD shock have an incredible ride feel. They absorb the small bumps while still improving road handling. Best of both worlds!
• Neuspeed front strut bar: increased front chassis stiffness.
• 17” VW Long Beach rims Plasti-dipped black: There are some areas where the Plasti-dip has rubbed off. They still look good though.
• Stainless brake lines
• Panzer Plate: This is a heavy-duty aluminum skid plate used to protect the delicate cast aluminum oil pan that has minimal ground clearance. Everyone will tell you that this is essential. A busted oil pan most likely means a blown engine.
• DieselGeek Sigma Short Shifter: A much more solid and precise feel over stock.
• GLI Seats, Steering wheel, Center console, and E-brake.
• 1.25” Hitch but no wiring. I used it for bike racks

Extras:
• Bentley Repair Manual
• Timing Belt Tools (came with the car but I never used them)
• Both sizes of vacuum tubes: Always great to have on-hand since they need replacing every so often.
• Slide hammer for removing injectors and nozzles
• Extra MAF sensor
• 2 working key FOBs with immobilizers

Recent repairs with receipts:
• Courtesy Auto (TDI specialists) Madison Wisconsin: New A/C Compressor and radiator fan 7/26/18 264,856 miles
• Courtesy Auto : Front Control arms and bushings, both front bearings, both front tie rod ends, all for brake rotors and pads 10/26/2017 262,278 miles
• Jason’s TDI (TDI Guru) in Oregon Wisconsin: Deluxe timing belt kit 5/17/18 251,888 miles
