Do you mean the "VW Golf Mk4 press brake warning light - for automatic vehicles it indicates that you must depress the brake pedal in order to start the vehicle".

Describe in more detail, the events that lead up to the light coming on such as were you selecting drive after coming out of park or did the light come on by only stepping on the brake?

Prior to stepping on the brake, make sure the shift lever is fully pushed forward and fully in park and report back.

Hi. Basically what happens is when in park, I press on the foot pedal and when pressing it to varying levels (lightly pressing it, to pressing on the pedal hard, to everything in between) the dash light come on and off. Not a flicker by any means, but like a loose wire or something? The car had a brake light switch recall done in 2007 (replaced). Maybe the replacement is going bad? I'm not sure exactly where the switch is.

Before we get blue in the face talking about WHY a light has come on....
Have you done the basics? Like check your brake fluid level? This is a safety related item...
Brakes FEEL OK?
VW Golf Mk4 brake system warning light - this warning light will illuminate when either the handbrake is on, or the brake fluid level is too low - the ignition must be switched on for this light to illuminate. If your Golf Mk4 is also fitted with the ABS system, this light will also illuminate along with the ABS light if there is an issue with the ABS system (See ABS light on this page for more info). Check your brake fluid levels as soon as possible to avoid your brakes not working as they should
From the page you linked too...
