Proud new owner of a 2010 VW SportsWagen! Should I get the extended warranty. they would turn the 3/36 bumper-to-bumper to 7/100 for $2500.

Are any of the other things worth getting?

paint protection plan - $1100
theft - $1000?

Thanks!!

If you have salsa red paint, I recommend a paint protector.

Well any car can have major expensive repairs.

The profit to the salesman and company is usually over 50%. So for every $1,000 you spend the insurance company has less than $500 to pay for repairs or they will loose money, something insurance companies do not do. Some peop;le will get nothing back and some will get a lot more than they pay. Most will get far less. In addition you need to keep in mind that the insurer has worded it to eliminate as many expensive things as they can.

Remember that the seller is out to make money and they get to write the rules and set the price. They are not going to sell them at a loss so one way or another they are going to have you pay more than they will pay out.

Would you gamble with a car dealer who gets to set all the rules and knows all the odds?

Your decision has to do with the value of the piece of mind it gives you. If that is worth the cost then buy it. Don't expect it to cover everything however, most are written to keep cost down and exempt what they know will cost them money.

Good Luck

I got the extended warranty. Try to talk them down on the price though. at least to $2000. 2500 is too much

For much less than $1100, you can get the Invisible Bra, professionally installed.

An extended warranty is only as good as the company that sells it. Many of those companies go out of business after they collect a few million in premiums. Others required that all maintenance be performed at a dealership -- you will not want to give the local dealership your money, when there are independent mechanics and shops that can do better work at a lower cost.

I don't want to drive this thread off topic, but...

Wouldn't it be great to see the TDI Club turn from just a forum into a true car club, members could sign up for an exended coverage and get assistance from highly qualified mechanics and fellow members? It could propel the website and the GTG's into a profitable venture.

Even I would consider paying for an extended coverage if I get to have my car attended by the mechanics recommended in this forum.

... and now back to our topic: Stealerships suck and extended warranty is a scam. This statement holds true in Germany, the USA, and even in godforsaken Puebla.
