Has anyone here bought one of the after market skid plates to protect the oil pan on the Mk7? I see there are several, a very stout looking composite one, a steel one and an aluminum one. Some Google results show the Ares to be popular but I wonder if the cheaper, composite one would be better as it looks quite stout and I have seen aluminum puncture, crack and even have objects go right through it.

I also got the Ares plate from ID Parts and wouldnt run the car without it. Too much road debris and uneven drive ways for the risk. That said the plate is great and easy to install and use.

Evolution aluminum plate. 3rd one on 3 TDI's over the years. Mounting system has improved significantly. Very easy on/off for my '15 GSW, which you need to get at from underneath to change oil filter.

Any of them can be overcome by hitting stuff if the conditions are right. For what it is worth I haven't put one on my 2015 as it is much higher off the ground than my 2003 was. It was barely 3 inches off the ground and ground down on almost anything in or on the roadway. The 2015 hasn't had any issues so far.

Here is the definitive thread on this subject: https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8532

Every single option from nearly every manufacturer gets dissected. I myself ended up buying the Alltrack’s reinforced plate.
Thanks! Good reading even though I already made my decision and would advise others to do the same. For the price, the value is undeniable. [emoji1474][emoji1474]

Which version did you guys get ? Mine has a single ventilation cutout which I think is the DSG version, although I certainly can't see any harm in having it on a 6mt.

Golfdave put a lot of effort into that writeup, and that is commendable. I had to chuckle a bit at the end of the first post where he states the underbody trays improved his cars cornering ability. :D

DSG Skid Tray (Vented): 5Q0 825 902C or 3Q0 825 902
Manual (No Vent): 5Q0 825 902B

Best prices will be found on eBay, even though yes, you’ll pay more in shipping than the part itself. Or your local junkyard. Expect to pay ~$100-$150 for the pan and ~$50 for the following bolts you’ll need:

Left and Right Bracket: 5Q0825921 and 5Q0825922A
Bolts: N 0195 307 (x6)

For what it's worth our DSG Alltrack has the non vented pan, and I'm cool with that, as the DSG has it's own coolant loop.

Also FCP Euro carries the Alltrack pan for about what you can get it from ebay, maybe quicker shipping, but it may be free.

I got the pan from eBay and all the bolts from FCP for $200 total. FCP Euro charges $350+ for the pan alone.

I love FCP, but piecing it together is definitely cheaper if you’re willing to take the time.

JM- I can't enlarge the photo on my screen, it looks like the 3Q0825901 from your ebay link also corresponds the p/n you listed above: 3Q0 825 902, for DSG with vent? I guess I need to find 5Q0 825 902B / 3Q0 825 902B (manual without vent).

Ecs locks in place just like the OEM. It has anchor point in the center front as well.

The OEM Aero (flimsy lightweight) pan locks into the front spoiler via plastic tabs. Any serious strike will rip the pan right out-from, or out-along-with your front spoiler.

The upgraded OEM pan bolts to support brackets that need to be installed.

Checking in to see if anyone has install pics or instructions for the OEM Rough Road belly pan (Alltrack / 5Q0 825 902B / 3Q0 825 902B) install for a GSW? I have the thread from GolfMK7, but I'm hoping for more pictures and a step by step. Thanks.

3rd Evo plate on 3rd Sportwagen. The MK7 plate is a lot slicker install than the MK4 and MK6 were. Wouldn't run without it back here in the boonies.
MK 7 is easier to get on and off, which makes a difference because you have to change the oil filter from underneath now, whereas on the earlier cars you could do an oil change from the top.

GolfDave's thread is the best and original. This is a 2 out 10 on the difficulty s scale (1 out of 10 is the factory belly pan) so it's very easy. Follow the parts list and just get under the car. :)
