2000 ALH 5-speed, 294k miles ............ assumed that a nice clean tranny (top and bottom) meant no need to check fluid level ............wore out 5th gear about three weeks ago!

Tranny, with no warning/syptoms, jumped out of 5th gear and would not stay in ever again. Added almost enough fluid to indicate it was basically empty! If you know how the tranny is made, 5th is out there on the end and when the fluid level gets low it suffers big time!

So, check/change the darn fluid per the specifications!

Indeed... VERY GOOD ADVICE.... Check the tanny fluid level.. I had the same thing happen last year when towing a trailer down east, jumped out of 5th and wouldn't stay in. When I finally got the check the fluid level, 1500kms later as it's hard to find that hex socket, my level was nearly non-existent too. Finally got around to replacing the tranny last month (what a job!) and I'll be checking the fluid every year...

232,000 miles......2004 NB with Diesel Power power box ..Replaced the glow plug harness, turbo inlet hose clamp blew off and had that changed, timing belt changes and oil changes...
Ooops..complete brake job and suspension rebuild.
That's it. Going in to oldpoopie for it's next timing belt and doing the cam shaft at that time...also throwing an aluminum skid plate on too. I'm sick of replacing those plastic POS skid plates!

I wanna hit 400K at least!

5-door, 5-speed Golf GLS replaced BeetleGo.
For those getting close to 300k, there is also a thread for 300k, 400k, 500k, 600k, and BEYOND! Two members have already entered the 600k club. I heard at the fest this week that there are two members (don't know who they are yet) who have entered BEYOND.

Quoting my own post! ??

Forgot to mention that I also owned a Volvo 740 GLE that went to 325K before I donated it. Engine still ran strong! All I did was the recommended service..replaced 1 clutuch and did a transmission re-build.
It was stolen and gone for 3 months and 40,000 miles were put on it. The cops thought that it probably made drug runs from Oregon down to Mexico before they parked it. I found ciringes (sp) and wood for campfires...The car was also totaled (by someone stealing the stereo) they smashed the console and the insurance company said it would be more to replace it than the car was worth...They cut me a check for $2,000 bucks and I turned around and bought the car back from them for $365.00. I drove the car almost another 100,000 miles after that happened.
I donated it when the windshield wiper motor died.

I should have checked in here a few years ago. I made the (fuzzy - stupid autofocus camera) photo for my avatar in June of 2008. I've only put about 25k miles on the 4-dr since then.

Went over 200K a couple of months ago on my 2002 Jetta TDI. I bought this car new, and it is still going strong, despite two turbo replacements.

225k and climbing

At 200k I replaced all the suspension components..including struts (Bilstein TC's), shocks, springs, axle bushings b joints, etc. The car handles very tight and superb now. Not bad for a 225k car. Original DM clutch works fine - one intake cleaning, new MAF and N75. My goal is to get 350k - right to retirement time.

203,000 on our '02 Jetta AUTOMATIC. 2nd owner, bought at 95K, and our highway commuter for 3yrs. Oilhammer assures me it's the original tranny. When that 01M finally goes I think the wife will need to lear to drive a stick.
My '00 Golf 5spd is approaching 185K so will be 200K by end of year.

Hit 200K the first week of August 2011. Just replaced the brake pads for the first time + the timing belt kit and serp belt tensioner. Battery went and a front wheel bearing, but the trans is still strong. Cam & followers still look good. Suspension is starting to show the wear and tear you'd expect from 6 years of hi-way pot holes, but good enough for another year.

high miles

Lost my 2003 Jetta TDI to wreck last month -had since new. Only 356,000 miles. Original auto trans was beginning to slip, and ac was making noise. Now have 2005 Jetta TDI with only 89,000 miles - a mere baby. Having all maintenance done - timing belt, trans fluid, etc. so I know condition of car. Look forward to alot of miles.
