Hey can you add one more? AllanVonVW. I bought my first VW a about a month ago. It's a 2002 Jetta TDI 1.9 with the ALH engine. The odometer should hit 300,000 miles by Wednesday or so, and It still gets around 54 mpg no mods... yet :) After I have the new clutch on in a couple weeks, I'm going to start out the cheap way with a good intake and the Evry Mod.

Thanks,

Allan :)

I live in Garland right off the lake. any tips do's don'ts on VW's. I've only owned my Jetta for about a month now.

I had a MAF code pop up a couple of days ago, and thanks to all the incredible info on here help me figure out the problem myself. I don't think it made much/if any difference in power, but went ahead and disconnected the battery, sprayed the crap out of the sensor itself along with both sides of the harnesses with some Radio Shack electronic cleaner, waited a couple of hours to make sure everything was dry, then I reset the ECU by touching the Negative battery terminal to the Positive side for a split second (i'm told that resets the ECU) Two days later... no check engine light and my seems to be running perfect.

Do you have any recommendations for someone who can change my clutch, timing belt, and water pump for a good price around DFW?

I use a guy in Ft Worth to do my Audi stuff. He's very very reasonable, and a super nice guy. Worth the drive Steve Zink 832-257-4213 Tell him Jon with the Devil A6 sent you

One word of advice...VW/Audi specialists don't necessarily make good TDI mechanics. I had a timing belt job totally botched by a very well respected VW/Audi shop in Dallas. Other people have had similar experiences. For items related to the car, and not the engine, he may be fine. However, for anything engine/diesel related (including and especially timing belts!), one of our established TDI gurus are the way to go. We have at least three in the DFW area:

alphaseinor (Brian Hague) has a shop north of The Colony (Frisco) and is my personal choice.
214-257-8221 (Office)
214-299-2748 (Cell)

mtbr297 (Steve Glover) is well respected and is in Fort Worth.
(817) 244-7747 cell (817) 915-4063

jetta ,97 (Marin M.) is also well respected and is in Dallas, but I'm not sure where.

Jon... I've put you down in Irving.
Allen... got you down too.

Thanks all!

Shameless bump in case there are any new DFW owners that wish to be added to the list.

Howdy folks!

I guess you can add me to the list! I just drove home a new black 2011 Jetta Sportwagen TDI w/DSG, NAV, Sunroof. I've been here on Fred's since I bought my old 2001 New Beetle TDI long ago...but I've been gone for a while since I had sold the bug a while back. Anyway...now I've moved up here to the Hackberry Creek area here in Irving and now I'm back in the TDI stable again. So far we are loving the JSW. I traded in a 2008 Prius on it because I couldn't get all of the car seats and the new stroller in it (got one in the oven ready for December). Read a bunch here before buying, but all the complainers still didn't sway me! I'd like to add some sill plates, a skid plate, and maybe a few other tweak here and there...but overall I don't really have much I want to change.

We have occasional GTGs, but with this heat, I think that sometime in the fall would be a good time.

Done, Adam, and welcome to the TDIClub. If you work with Steve, you don't have far to go to find a guru!

NEWB from Celina, TX but, work in Lewisville. Bought mine as a commuter but, plan on making it a little faster with a tune, injectors and maybe a turbo. It is an early 05 5 speed car. So far averaging about 35 mpg running it like I want to and not really babying it for "Hyper-mileage"

I guess that makes us neighbors!
That's exactly why I bought mine. Sold my GMC 2500hd 4x4 that got 11mpg to get this as a daily driver, but I have to have some fun with it!

Where in Celina are you? I'm in Carter Ranch.

I am just north of you off of 94. I just had a stage II tune put in mine on Monday. Big difference and a little more fun to daily drive!
