Default Seattle/north VAG-COM?

Greetings Tribe,
I was disappointed I was previously committed on 06-29 so I couldn't make the Heinz
NW II GTG on Saturday. From the look of the posts, it was a good event.
I am hoping to link up with someone fairly local (not loco) with a VAG-COM. I have a
blinking glow plug dash light and a steady check eng light that illuminate approximately
30 seconds after start up. The lights continue until shutdown.
Checking the forums, I've found a few things to check for, but I'd still like to have the
VAG-COM checkout even if the brake lights or fuse #43 fixes it.
I'd also be interested in buying into a shared VAG-COM if someone has an opening or
is interested in starting one. I'll check back here, but emailing me directly is an option.
(blb55ya@yahoo.com)

Thanks, -BLB- (Brian Bilger)

Sorry about that. Guess I'm off a bit just like the Jetta.(blb55wa@yahoo.com is correct) Had one brake lamp out in the rear window, but there's more going on than that. I'm getting a wheezing sound along with power drop as I accelerate from mid teens(RPM) through mid 2's. A large smoke increase also accompanies the attempted speed increase. Could recently replacing the fuel filter have botched something up? Appreciate any assistance . . . -BLB-

I am looking for someone too. How do we hook up and how much is the cost?

I've got a VAG-COM in Renton. I could give you guys a check-out whenever you need it. BUT...If you have an aftermarket radio in your ride, it'll probably blow the fuse in the Vag-com unit, so that is where I draw the line. Otherwise, you can email me.

Thanks for the replies, guys, but I took the car down to Golf-Jetta Service on Lake City Drive (N Seattle) and they say the ECU is bad. I've got to pick it up in the next couple days since they, and I, haven't been able to locate a used ECU yet. Any leads would be appreciated. I'm afraid to check. but hear a new one is very very pricey! I'll drive the car home and continue the search while driving my teenager's car to work.
I'd probably have a VAG-COM by now if my laptop wasn't screwed up. (It probably wouldn't be a good idea to let me near anything you want to keep working, now)
The aftermarket radio comment is news to me. Personal experience? Does it matter if the radio is on or off?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">My friend has a VAG-COM in Vancouver and so does Fred (the operator of this cool board). I might be heading over to my friend's house this Sunday, I will e-mail you!

Hey, out of curiosity (just saw your email address), you work at Dave Chalk's talk show?

The aftermarket radio-thing is from personal experience and a discussion with the makers of the Vag-Com. It is a quirky thing...but we spent over an hour at Fred's house (yes, "the" Fred who hosts this site) trying to get it to work after blowing a fuse in the little comm unit. The replacement fuses are cheap at Radio Shack, so give it a go and keep a few spares on hand.

Check your VIN to see if your below 137747 or above 137748.
The cheapest I've found is $300, but they are a bit more if you go through the dealer.
