Power outlet / Cigarette Lighter

2014 Touareg - penny in the console outlet and after replacing fuses front and console outlets not working.

Is there a special tool to remove the outlet?

I don't know of a special tool, but I took out my 2010 Tiguan dash extension of the console and whole console trying to chase down a possible short or open wire because my outlets are off when running but on weakly when key turned off. I am also having a blower motor problem too, and not sure if they are related. Some of the plastic inserts, blanks, or labelled, can be gently pried/popped out with a thin edge but I don't know the specifics on the Touareg.

According to the manual

1.1 Removing and installing 12 V socket
Caution
If excessive force is exerted on sockets without illumination,
the retaining sleeve may be damaged.
Only illuminated sockets (cigarette lighter) can be removed
with the puller T 40148.
The puller does not manage to release the locking lugs of
sockets without illuminated retaining sleeve.
Usually sockets without illumination cannot be removed without
being damaged.
