In the process of tracing my battery drain in another thread, I've found that the J519 Vehicle Electronic Control Module is staying awake. I also have found that relay (part # 1KO 951253KL30) in location KL30 is warm to touch. After testing the relay, it's working properly.

I inspected all 4 door harnesses from the inside of the door (skin off) to the connector on the pillar. There are no signs of broken wires.
The interior ceiling lights and floor lights work properly when opening, and closing the door. The trunk light works properly as well. All window, lock, mirror, trunk release and fuel door work properly, with no issues ever.

I pulled fuse #15 in the drivers side dash (J519 and interior lights), and everything sounded like it was asleep. After inserting it, everything remained asleep.

I stopped the trickle charger at 12:00AM (it wasn't fully charged yet) and got 12.22 volts ...... at 8:00 AM today, I got 11.96 volts

I'm trying to get another scan, as most of the falts prior were due to low voltage.

Are there any other visual inspections I can do before taking this to the next level?

Latest scan threw a bunch of intermittent codes from me fiddling with connections etc.... But these two, are not intermittent:

What radio do you have? If you have upgraded to a newer style radio, it will cause the CAN Gateway to stay awake draining the battery.

Have you had your CAN Gateway updated? I believe there was a TSB about this, but I can't find any info on it.

Nevermind.

I found the post referring to the update of the CAN gateway and it is for 08 and 09 vehicles. I doubt it is your problem.

I had the 00470 code when one of my door wires broke. Apparently there are 2 communication wires that run to all of the modules ( i think) and when 1 breaks it puts the whole system into 1 wire mode. Anyways if i unhooked the door that had the broken wire that code would go away, i could clear it with vcds and it wouldnt come back. I think you could actually go module to module unhooking them until you find the one causing the code.

Thanks Jonathan! This morning, I disconnected all doors, and hooked the battery back up with a full charge. My plan is to feel the breaker that stayed warm prior (during the draw), and if it's still warm, I'm assuming the problem is not in the doors. If it's cool, I'll attach one door at a time, give it a start & run cycle, let it go to sleep, and see if it warms up then. All my wires look good, but I didn't run a cont. test on the com wires while apart. I do hope this is in a door though. Is the school of thought to replace the door module if the com wires have good continuity?

Did you clear this code and it comes back or it just set from you fooling with fuses and wires?

Hopefully you'll be able to track something down with the doors

I was fooling with fuses, it showed up on 6-2, but I don't think it was cleared. I just got vag-com, cleared everything, and I'm taking it for a ride now.

to be honest i am not 100% sure how the whole electronics system works but i wonder if the doors are left unplugged if the system will stay awake because it's looking for modules to respond. Although when i had the 1 wire code it didnt kill my battery in a short amount of time.

Ok, I cleared all codes myself, and got a clean scan after driving for 5 miles, with the exception of the radio.... It's removed from the car. When I remove the fuse for j519, or relay KL30, the draw goes away. This is the same circuit for interior lights, but they are all working as they should. I can put the fuse back in after it sleeps, and there's no draw. As soon as I do a start cycle, it comes back.
