Apparently it just has an additive in it. Probably provides cetane boost and lubricity boost.

You can use your own additive with the same effect and maybe cheaper. Stanadyne or Power Service seem popular.

It is not necessary but MAY help your engine.

ive never found my fuel from shell to be good. Just my opinion and could just be my bad luck but i always noticed i had smokier exhaust , less power and far less mileage. I use power service every tank and wouldnt pay for the V-power fuel since who knows whats in there. Plus as yatzee pointed out, the price difference is not worth it. Just MHO

I use it and like it. My car used to get Esso, but with V-power, it's smoother, better mileage (slightly). I might go to normal shell and add Stanadyne. Kinda painful - filled up today at 1.339...
