I'm a newbie here & a little confused. Do I have a dual mass flywheel in my '06 Golf?

There is no way for us to know over the internets. Someone with a trained ear may be able to tell with the car running and in neutral.

All A4 and A5 cars with manual or DSG transmission have a DMF from the factory. The only way it wouldn't have one is if the PO had replaced it with a SMF. How many miles on your car? How long have you had it?

I bought it about a month ago with 93k on the clock. The PO did put an Evo skid plate on & the GTI 17" wheels. There are no other obvious (to me) mods. The car was maintained by the selling dealer who I bought it from.

Single mass flywheel TDIs rattle more in neutral, if a 5-speed.

Yeah but DMF's make rattles and all sorts of other weird noises when they start to fail.
