If you are interrested in a career in IT, one of the few growth areas is in hardware support. I had lunch with a Microsoft executive a few weeks and he said that Microsoft's business is flat and expected to remain so, and for the hardware companies new hardware sales are flat and will remain so, but the one area Microsoft is not in (and wishes it were in) is hardware support/maintenance. He said the numbers of IT systems will continue to grow, but hard drives and other parts will still fail at the same rate, which makes repair a growth industry. In other words the hardware support business will triple in size over the next 10 years, while the rest of the business declines. And the fastest growth is in the small business 1-20 employee size. Check out Computer Troubleshooters Canada at www.computertroubleshooters.com and you will find a great business opportunity. Also in the USA and 14 other countries, it's one of the fastest growing computer support businesses in the world. I have one of the franchises and my reason for driving a TDI is because I have so many clients that I tend to drive 100 miles a day. My new Passat wagon is due in a week or so. Business is great and growing.

Happy Holidays

Re: I.T. CAREER NEEDED IN CANADA

I'm not located in Canada, but here in the U.S. along with Hardware Support, the area of Informatics is also going to continue to grow. An IT specialist in Informatics is also a R.N., and gets to combine IT skills with the medical field. It's kind of like Admin meets RN (without all the bedpans). It's something I was very interested in for awhile as an EMT who was looking at getting an RN, and already an IT guy.

Anyway, if he's looking for something totally new and has an interest in healthcare already, this might be right up his alley.

I tried your link, the Canada (English) site for franchise opportunities just hangs. Nothing worse than a computer support site with a broken link.

Try it again. I am having no trouble connecting and no one else is complaining of a connection problem. Check the main links and you will find they work. Are you on dial-up?
Anyway we are still growing and this part of the industry is booming. Click the link and ask for more information. There is no cost or obligation and no sales pitch to force you into anything. Even if you don't join the company, you might just learn something that helps point you in the right direction towards your goals.

I have over 1500 miles on the new Passat now and no problems to report.

Regards,

Steve
