Yeah the only stories I heard from the ambassador was a guy who had $3,000 deducted for mileage overages, and some poor guy who after the buyback still owed like $10,000 on his '12 Jetta
Turned my salvaged DC titled 2013 Passat SEL in yesterday, waiting on the JP Morgan EFT but everything was smooth--only exception was VW asking me for "Proof Of Acquisition", I provided them with a scanned copy of the title from the MD dealership that was signed over to me and they accepted it. I got my car in Feb 2016 and paid $12,400 cash for it, turned it in with 50,318 miles on it and got $26,037.
During the claims process. They emailed me separately after the review phase. I sent that and the bill of sale.I'm curious if they requested that "proof of acquisition" AT your buyback appt? Or were you referencing that the request was made during the claims process?
Cheers
According to the info you've posted the car appears eligible. But you must be very careful on salvage cars. You are getting into uncharted waters for many of us on the forum, so take any advice with a hefty grain of salt. To be honest, you should go into this purchase with an acceptable outcome being you must keep/fix/part out the car as your worst case. If you can stomach that, then give it a shot. After reading all the forums on salvage title buybacks I'm still not 100% certain if this car would qualify.
Any ideas?
The vehicle was a total loss on 8/4/16
Salvage Title issued to insurance company 11/18/16
From what I understand if I purchased the car now it would be eligible for me to turn in for the buyback.
The car had a clean title prior to the accident. (no branded title pre 9/15)
It could be driven under it's own power 6/28/16
The wording here makes me question it's eligibility:
"if your car is totaled after June 28, 2016, but before the opt-out date (September 16, 2016), you are excluded from the settlement class and reserve your rights and claims against the Volkswagen entities."
jamesehatcher posted this note about the previous quote:
"Note the car itself is not excluded just the individual....same as a clean title car."
Does anyone else know if the car would be excluded from the settlement due to it's 8/4/16 total loss?
Thanks!
makes sense... thanks. i dont know if im even going to bother. its a used car dealership and you know how those are... shady shady shadyIt should be. However VW has been slow-walking many/all claims for 2.0 liter cars with salvage titles, look through this

I heard prices of these cars on craigslist have been falling lately as a result of VW's delays. I also heard they are especially concerned about cars with multiple claims. If I were you, I would call the claims helpline and ask if there are any claims on this vehicle yet. If not, and if the car meets the other buyback criteria, you probably will be OK, but might have to wait a while for your money.
