i was given an ebay opto vag-com cable...is this fine for my 2000 jetta tdi AND my 2006 jetta tdi...i have bought both of these cars in the last 3 weeks and am swimming in all kinds of cool data...thanks for this site

From what I understand, the cable that you have will work on your 2000 Jetta. You will of course need to download the Vag-com software, and for full functionality you will need to buy the full registered copy. On your 2006 I believe that you will need the actual VAG-COM cable due to the CAN bus. I think if you checkout http://ross-tech.com you will find all the information that you are looking for.

The best cable is the so-called Hex-Com, which automatically authenticates the software, which otherwise has to be licensed and activated. It has a serial and USB version, and is not damaged by aftermarket radios. This also supports the efforts of Ewe Ross, to whom we are grateful.
