Headlight

I am currently replacing the headlight assembly on my 05 tdi and noticed that there is a small marker light in the high beam unit and I was wondering what it is for and what activities it? I’ve never noticed it until now. Thanks

It is called a 'city light'. Basically it marks the front of the car. It is officially a european feature where the regular headlamps are not used in the city.
