Was the $3000 spent including the turbo cost? The reason I ask is I'm dropping my car off at my closest TDI mechanic today with the exact same issue. If it is I'll be going with the franks kit you linked and was wondering what the total cost was? Thanks

Yes, it was actually a bit over $3000, but that's including the turbo/work. The total cost for the camshaft was ~$1850. ~$1500 for the cam kit (included all break-in stuff and timing belt change) and $350 labor. Normally I think the labor would be around $600 or so, though, from checking at other places. Good luck!

Well, I'm back on the road and very happy with the new Franko6 Cam. Very smooth and quiet almost like having a new car - well it should be after $3000! Thank you all so much for great input, just wish I would have checked here before throwing a new turbo in :(. Anyone need a used turbo?
Post the used turbo in the Classifieds/For Sale/Wanted forum. You won't have any problem finding a buyer.

Also, can anyone recommend a Camshaft replacement kit? I'm looking at:

Is it worth to go with Frank06's kit?

Rather than having the cam chrome plated wouldn't getting it nitrided be a better choice ?
I see that Kerma sells PD lifters that have been nitrided and possibly a "Colt" cam.
Any thoughts on these parts ? ( I have an 04 Passat TDI )

Replacing the cam and lifters, do you need to do any adjustment / shims etc ? Or ust drop them in and go ?
